Hours of Puzzling Fun March 3, 2010 drebbles (Arlington, MA USA) The Queen of England has asked you to investigate the mystery behind Ravenhearst Manor. There have been rumors surrounding the Manor for years, including reports of ghostly sightings. The only clue you have is part of Emma Ravenhearst's diary but pages are missing. You must go into Ravenhearst Manor and find the missing pages in order to solve the mystery.
"Ravenhearst" (the third game in the Mystery Case Files series following Mystery Case Files: Huntsville and Mystery Case Files: Prime Suspects) is a nicely done hidden object/puzzle game. What makes this game stand above the first two games in the Mystery Case Files series is that there is an actual storyline to follow as you move through the levels (although it is not too hard to figure out where the storyline is going). Another thing that makes this game stand out are the fifteen locked rooms that you unlock by solving a puzzle - some of these puzzles are downright diabolical and I had to use a cheat sheet in order to solve them (you can skip these puzzles if you wish but you lose your hints if you do so). By comparison, I thought the final puzzle in the game was a bit too easy.
"Ravenhearst" has 22 levels and took me approximately 7 hours to play. There are two different playing options: Detective mode, which is a timed game and a Relaxed Mode which gives you extended time (approximately an hour each level). I found the Relaxed Mode to be much more enjoyable, especially because of the locked room puzzles. Throughout the course of the game you will look for hidden objects in 32 different rooms or locations, including the front porch, dining room, attic, tree house, pantry, cellar, and more. You have up to five hints if you get stuck and you may need each of those hints in certain locations. I liked the fact that you didn't need to find every hidden object in each location in order to move on. Some of the rooms are a cluttered mess (amusingly, the diary comments on that fact) which makes the hidden objects hard to find - in other rooms the hidden objects are relatively easy to find. The game can be tricky - a bat can be either a baseball bat or the mammal. Each level ends with a jigsaw puzzle, which I find annoying in other games, but not so in this game as the jigsaw puzzle not only reveals another diary entry, but a visual picture of the action. Speaking of pictures - while children may enjoy looking for the hidden objects parents should be aware that there is a hint of violence towards the end in a cartoony sort of way, but that and the very ending of the game may be a bit too scary for younger children.
"Ravenhearst" is another winner in the Mystery Case Files series of games.
Excellent Brain Teaser of a game! February 19, 2010 Kenneth M. Andrews I have played many different hidden object games via PC and Nintendo DS and this one is by far my favorite. The graphics are amazing and every detail of the game gets you hooked and keeps you there until the end. The puzzles are very interesting and yet some are quite tricky. If you enjoy a brain teaser than look no further and play this one!!! I can't wait until I get Return to Ravenhurst!!!
Great Game! February 4, 2010 Kimberlie S. Cramer (Miamisburg, OH United States) I have purchased, and played, many of the games in this genre and this is by far the best. The game is challenging, with interesting puzzles and great graphics.
There is a story line that is appealing and while the hunt and find sections are great the puzzles inserted between really add to the game.
A great game!
MCF Beginners January 10, 2010 Markus This is a good game for anyone that wants to start playing the hidden object games. The objects are pretty easy to fine (as compared to later games in the series). However, you must have a logical mind to complete the puzzles to open the locked rooms.
GREAT!!!!! December 11, 2009 Teresa Dodson (WV)
Very entertaining. I teach elementary school, the kids love to play it in their spare time. It teaches them how to look closely for items and trying out how to figure out the puzzles becomes a group effort. I love it.
