The best! July 28, 2010 AMVEditor I love it! It's quick and opens up in 10 seconds! It opens all files, it has many effects, it lets me create amazing videos, and rendering it is no hassle. I love the fact that I can have about four videos playing at the same time in the same video. I can also edit music, and render in HD and in widescreen. I love creating videos with it. Plus, it lets me upload directly to YouTube, which is easy for me, and it uploads in 10 minutes.
It comes with many effects and transitions, which includes 3D effects and transitions. It gives you the best quality. One of the best products I have seen from Sony!
More overheads than I expected. July 6, 2010 j t After using Movie Maker for a while, I wanted to try something else for additional features and purchased Sony Movie Studio HD 9. For the installation, it first installed .NET and c++, then the application. The installation time of .NET and c++ was much longer than for the application itself. For the past few days since the installation of the Sony Movie Studio HD 9, the XP system shutdown and startup times are now longer with delays due to the constant updates of the .NET infrastructure (take a look at the mscorsvw.exe process.) Now I wonder whether Movie Maker is a better software after all.
Good deal June 10, 2010 Paul (Toronto, Canada) I have used the Platinum version of Sony Vegas. I got this for using at work. It is a good program although some users may find it a little advanced. The good thing is there are a lot of videos on YouTube that will help you if you get stuck. Bill Myer (I think that's how you spell it) has some great pointers and tips on YouTube for Vegas.
It really is a dummied down version of their top end product it limits you by only allowing 4 video and audio tracks.
You may want to wait or look for a good price as version 10 has just been released.
It also works well with the Flip Mino HD camera and my Sanyo GC10. I can edit on a 2.4ghz Pentium. I recommend you install the KLite Codec Pack which is free ware.
I totally recommend this product. I have Adobe Premiere Elements and this I find a little easier to use.
FAIL. June 7, 2010 anonymous 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This software is great for editing up to about 1 minute of HD video, but once any more than that is added to the timeline... *CRASH* Open it again, *CRASH* Try again, *CRASH* and again... *CRASH*
I'm running a Quad core processor and 4GB of RAM, so I know it's not my computer...
Sony failed on this one...
Buggy, but acceptable. May 20, 2010 C. Gonzalez (Scottsbluff, NE) Considering the price tag, I can't complain too much. However, it's buggy, shuts down sometimes when trying to import files, and overall I found it user unfriendly (despite Sony's attempt to make it easier with the tutorials). The tutorials are a nice addition, though they were not complete on many occasions and I had to just learn by trial and error.
My main complaint: Uploading Quicktime files was a nightmare until I found the answer after HOURS of searching on Sony's forums for this product. It turns out there is a known issue with Aiptek video files in that when you drag and drop the file into the timeline, the sound does not come over with it. The solution is quite simple to fix: Simply import your video from your camera or card, then rename it as an mp4 file. For example: file0001.mov renamed to file0001.mp4. Yep, that simple. Now drag and drop, and VOILA! there's the sound. It took me hours to find the answer for that, so I hope this helps someone.
The nice thing about this program is that there are tons of plug ins and features to add to your video (after your figure out how to do it), and I'm still in the process of perfecting this. It's definitely not a program with beginner in mind. However, once I look past the fact that it shuts down sometimes when importing, I like the program.
Rendering files as HD is time consuming unless you have a super fast or quad core computer. I have a dual core and it takes approximately 3-15 minutes of rendering per 1 minute of video (you do the math). Once it's rendered though, the video is spectacular. You have several options in which to render a file which is nice: non HD, 720 25fps, 720 30fps, 1080p 30 fps, etc.
Again, for the price tag, I can live with the bugginess. Would I recommend it? Not to a beginner or novice just looking to make simple movies.
