Real Life Review July 15, 2010 Cayce Lynn Williams (Atlanta) I've got big hands and simply couldn't type on the majority of netbooks out there. I wanted to love my Asus but there were a lot of issues and the keyboard was a deal breaker... absolute junk. I have a XPS 1640 as my main laptop so I did some reading and thought I'd give this one a try. It's not that attractive but I needed function over form. This little guy delivers on every level. I upgraded it to Win7 AFTER I added RAM. I installed Office 2010, chrome, Nortel VPN for work and Sprint Air Card software. I love the fact it has 3 USB ports. I'm getting about 5 solid hours out of the battery and I don't do any every saving nonsense - I often do the opposite. I will mention the battery takes forever to charge if you are on it. (so did my Asus though) The aesthetics will grow on you.
One of the best netbook out there, battery life was awesome!!! July 8, 2010 Gtec This is my first netbook. I have been thinking for a while about the limitation of netbook performance. I was wrong. The amount of work that I can do on it was incredible!!! I did compare with other brands netbook, this turn out to be the winner. The battery life is incredible, 7-8 hours every charge. I was debating to get the cheaper version that sold by amazon, but that one only have three cell battery. I am glad that I pick this one instead. Great netbook!!!
Best netbook on the market July 5, 2010 SeaBee [[ASIN:B002PY7P02 Dell Inspiron Mini 1011 10.1-Inch Obsidian Black Netbook - Up to 8 Hours 8 Minutes of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)]I bought this netbook with many reservations, particularly since it had only 1M of RAM. But, surprisingly, that has not been a problem. Now you must realize that a netbook is not meant to run things like CAD or these really power-hungry programs. But for my needs it has been great. It has more than enough space with a 320G hard drive and I am now running Windows 7 Home Premium on it which works great, as well as Office Home & Student edition. I use it to take notes, watch movies, as well as read ebooks. I have had no problem with the video - it is better than I expected. The Dell mini is very light and easy to carry and the battery lasts and lasts. So, if you are looking for a netbook, this is one worth considering.
solved the battery problem June 28, 2010 Melanie Barnes I'm not a computer expert by any means, so I was a little nervous buying a netbook since I kept reading reviews about power problems, etc. I went with Dell because it seemed to be the only one without significant problems in customer service. The first time I plugged my Inspiron mini in, it charged fully pretty quickly. The battery life seems to be well over 8 hours of internet surfing and typing - better than advertised! The second time I tried to charge, I got an error message saying it recognized that the charger was plugged in, but it couldn't find the battery and thus was not able to charge. Same situation I had read about on a lot of the netbooks. :( I turned it off then back on, no luck. Then I turned it off and removed the battery. I blew on it a little, because that worked back in the day with my Nintendo games, and replaced the battery. It is now fully charged again! Hopefully, this solution will keep working, and work for others.
Otherwise, I'm still getting to know this device so I can't say much about it. It's a lot faster than my old laptop, but that isn't saying much at all. The keyboard is a little small, but I'm getting used to it pretty quickly. I have small hands, so I guess that helps. Not carny hands, but little girl hands. It seems to be suiting my needs well enough, and I can save my documents as normal word documents and not frustrate my professors with some funky file type.
Should have done my homework. June 23, 2010 DLM (Missouri, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
First off - this is a good little computer for what it is. It just did not suit my needs. I thought I liked the idea of a small computer, so ordered this one in cherry red. It is definitely cute, the color is very pretty. The keyboard size is really not bad considering the overall size of the machine.
Now for the bad parts - I didn't like the touchpad. The buttons are actually part of the pad, and I found them to be hard to operate. If your finger isn't exactly on that small corner the cursor moves. I mainly wanted this netbook to go online and play games. It really isn't good for either of those activities. With only 1 gig of RAM it is definitely too slow and only comes with solitaire installed. One little picky thing - you can't change the desktop picture. That bugged me - I like to put pics of my kids on my desktop. It also cost me over $50 to return it once I payed for shipping it both ways and whatever else they charged me. Maybe a restocking fee?
Bottom line - think this over carefully and make sure you really want a computer this small. I'm replacing it with a 17.3 inch Dell with 4 gigs of RAM and 320 gigs of hard drive. More my speed I guess.
