I find this product very good, and its the first time I have replaced my security with the same brand after the other license ended.

3 out of 5 stars I prefer Kaspersky Internet Security 2009.   July 18, 2010

As a loyal Kaspersky customer since KIS 2009, I was somewhat disappointed by Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 (KIS 2010).

I'll start with the good points. Graphically, I think KIS 2010 was an improvement on KIS 2009, as it simply looks nicer. Everything was easier to find and laid out well.
As always with Kaspersky, the menus are absolutely huge in KIS 2010, so finding what you want may be tricky, not because it's hidden, but because there are so many menus that it's difficult to know which one you want. For me, that's fine as I love tweaking all of the settings in products like this, and Kaspersky lets you do that, so if you want a product that you can customise to the nth degree, then this is for you.

Unfortunately, that's where my positive feedback ends...
I was hugely disappointed to discover that the safe run mode in the product did not work properly on my computer - even though I have a 32 bit operating system, which it should have been fully compatible with. It was unstable to the point that it wasn't feasible to use it.
I was also very disappointed by the scan speeds. A full computer scan with KIS 2009 takes about 45 minutes at the very most on my computer, but it took KIS 2010 nearly three hours to scan the computer, and from looking at the menus, the scan settings were the same on both products. I don't like the fact that the vulnerability scanner is separate from the full scan in KIS 2010, as it means you have to run two scans instead of one. A full scan with KIS 2009 finds all of the vulnerabilities on my computer there and then.

There also appears to be a huge delay when updating the databases. KIS 2009 starts as soon as the internet turns on, but KIS 2010 seems to wait 5 minutes after the internet being turned on every time, even when the databases were out-of-date or obsolete.

My final moan about KIS 2010 has got to be that it pretty much refused to uninstall. I tried to uninstall it once, and after 15 minutes of waiting at the same screen, decided that it wasn't working, and since it was only half uninstalled, I had to do a system restore to undo the bad uninstall. When I tried to uninstall it a second time, it did work, but it froze for about 2 minutes twice and took a total of at least 10 minutes to completely uninstall, which I don't think is acceptable.

Overall, I still really like Kaspersky, but not KIS 2010, I would really highly recommend KIS 2009, as it's very inexpensive now, and I think it's a better product than KIS 2010.

My final piece of advice would be to buy KIS 2009 whatever product you want to use, and download an update file from Kaspersky's website and the KIS 2009 license will work. I'd also recommend buying KIS 2009 when your current license expires, as it'll cost you £39.99 to renew the license for 1 year, for 3 users, and a KIS 2009 license costs about £12.

One final thing that I probably should mention, if you're using Windows 7, you won't be able to run KIS 2009 on it, as only KIS 2010 and KIS 2011 are compatible with it.

5 out of 5 stars Kaspersky Internet Security 2010, no problem   July 17, 2010

I decided to replace my previous security suite of 3-4 years(F-secure) as, although I have never had any security problems while using it had dropped down the ratings and had become quite cumbersome, especially on my laptop.
I chose Kaspersky having read several good independent reviews, many of which mentioned how undemanding it was, and also due to the fact they offered a 3 user license for a very good price, through Amazon, and I am very happy with my choice. The installation was a breeze and it was up and running with virtually no additional inputs required from me, very pleased.
